ITALY Readers's Tips - You'll be fine in those cities at those times, as it's really not that late by EU standards. There will be taxi's at the train stations that will take you to your hotels.Relax.Everything will be fine. You will have a great time.

You'll be fine millions walk around late in the evening (night starts at midnight. in Southern Europe.rain stations attract all sorts of charactes, of course, so there certainly is a chance that you might see a drunk or whatever, but I'm sure you can handle that. In Venice you should find out beforehand (from your hotel which of the waterbuses called vaporetti you should take, and to which stop they all line up outside the train station, but let the hotel give you guidance as to which number, how late they run, and where to get off. If you should need a water taxi (a little motor boat as opposed to the vaporetto (a boat bus, that can get very expensive very quickly. Also go on a mapping site and print out the map so that you can find the place Venice is a rabbit warren. My choice is always to take a hotel in walking distance, in the district near the station called Cannareggio, along the street called Lista di Spagna and beyond and I walk there on level ground instead of taking a boat and heaving my stuff over bridges and such. Maybe this will work for you For both cities, but especially for Venice, I recommend Streetwise maps.ou can buy them at most major bookstores and online from the manufacturer.hey are plasticized, accordion fold maps with a street index/major attractions on one side. They can be very reassuring when navigating a city for the first time.hey are extremely durable and easy to use (much better than a large foldout paper map. Buon viaggio

Those times are ot late for train stations at all they'll still be busy. But I wouldn;t try to find my way to the hotel by public transit.Spring for a cab in Rome (an official cab only. In Venice I would suggest a water taxi. But before you make plans contact your hotel and get very specific directions/info do they have a private pier, will they send a bellman to the pier to met you, do you need to stop at a public stop and if so which one and exactly how far is the walk to your hotel Make sure you have a detailed map in your hand as the back streets of Venice are not unsafe but can be very confusing esp after dark.
