I would apply more caution than necessary, Most cities in Italy have lots of pickpockets. It's amazing how there's such divergent opinions on this. suspect both sides are right in some respects, but maybe we've just been to different places. For me the only place that really stood out as being uncomfortable in this respect was Catania on Sicily.fter that, the old part of Genova didn't feel particularly safe.ilano felt ok, but I was being quite careful (both metro and rail station felt busy enough to heighten your awareness. The rest of Genova, Amalfi Coast, Puglia, Aeolian Islands, Ferrara, Ravenna, Torino, Alba, Asti, Cinque Terre have all felt perfectly safe.'ve yet to see or hear of a theft while in Italy. I'm sure Venice, Naples, Rome, Florence, Palermo are all much more of a risk maybe we're just going to different places The city I have personally seen such issues in is Amsterdam, with a couple of very bold thefts from our cricket team whilst on tour.owever outside of the centre, it too felt pretty safe. regards Ian
