I agree with Ian.It doesn't sound as if your daughter is heading off to Italy completely alone, if she's meeting up with your husbands friends.I would be more worried if she was heading off alone at 17 to backpack around the continent. Ian's ideas of staying in touch are great ones.Check with your cell phone provider to see if you can have international service while she's abroad.If not, email works great and is a cheaper alternative. Ultimately, it is up to you but traveling abroad can be an excellent experience.If dad wants to give this as a graduation gift, so be it.
