ITALY Readers's Tips - Nice map. Very helpful.

Hi I have made a little change to the map to make it better. have introduced tooltips so when you move the cursor over the markers you will now get a short text informing you what the marker is all about. My friend andamp; I (age 60 will be going to Rome for the first time in March.hat areas are the safest for us to stay in We hope to spend less than 200 a night.y friend is interested in the Trastevere area, or any other that's off the usual tourist track.hanks for any help

Pretty much everything in ‘Monumental Rome’ or in the central city center is decidedly on the wellbeaten tourist track. That said, there are alleyways, side streets and little squares in every neighborhood that can make you forget that you are in one of the most visited cities on earth.Rome is a great walking city and if you are willing to utilize the bus/tram/underground system, a very easy place in which to get around.I wouldn’t worry very much at all about ‘safety’ in the N.merican understanding of the term. There is petty theft and there are pickpockets and those who will try to slip you a 5 euro note when you are owed a 10, but there is little in the way of thuggary, mugging or robbery to be concerned with.Use common sense precaution, especially in large crowds (like at the Trevi Fountain at night, on buses, in railway stations, queuing up for tickets, etc.nd you are unlikely to encounter any difficulties at all. If you are going to Rome to see and experience it and its magnificent past, then you will not be spending very much time in your hotel room anyway, so exactly where you stay and in what neighborhood doesn’t really matter as long as you are in or near the historic center.I prefer the area just north and east of the mail rail station for shorter visits (for convenience and easy access to all public transportation and east of the Villa Borghese for longer visits (more quiet, near the park and yet within walking distance to the center.
