ITALY Readers's Tips - Let me start by saying that you're my hero.d like to think that if I were facing a major challenge like you have in the last year,I'd head off to Rome with your determination. suggestion is that you post this question on the message board at Fodors.m.heir Europe board is used much more frequently than this and I'm sure you'll come up with the answers you need in no time.en you return,I hope you'll post a trip report to encourage others with challenges to visit this magnificent city

Thanks massagediva. took your advice and tried to post at Fodors, but screen kept coming up "Null".t least I'm registered there now and maybe I can find some help.o you know whether I'll have trouble entering Vatican/attractions with small, foldable stool in hand Hi, Sara Something funky has been going on with their site for the last couple of days.y again, there are some great folks there.think you'll be able to bring your little stool with you,but I'm not sure.

there's no place like home, but having italy as a second home for three weeks was pretty great, too.i believe this format is so helpful for planning all the stuff that you can and then there is plenty of room for spontaneous moments that just enhance the trip. our trip began with a lesson in practicing calming thoughts, as our first flight was delayed by American Airlines allowing a passenger to have a forgotten laptop computer brought to him, which resulted in security clearance issuesover one hour of us sitting like sardines on the plane..en, when the pilot attempted to back the plane out to get on the runway, we had mechanical failure.another hour plus delay.we also had to tolerate 9 hours(off and on of a screaming infant that finally vomited and was then quiet.our next leg on SwissAir(to Rome went flawlessly and we were impressed by the use of a camera positioned such that we could view the terrain flying over on the tv screens. thanks to all the forum contributors, i had decided to use selectitaly.m to prepurchase the train tickets needed for the final leg into Florence.the exhaustion factor had kicked in and i was really thankful to have ticket in hand and just hop on the Leonardo Express and then the Eurostar for a very comfortable ride into Florence.the operators at selectitaly were extremely helpful in pointing out factors i had not picked up on while viewing the trenitalia website (e. i had picked a day to view the train schedule in advance, but did not realize that saturday train schedules may not offer same trains as weekday.ore on this later We LOVED Florence.it is truly an intimate, beautiful city that is so easily walked.first hotel was Hotel David, which is not in the main city center, but across the bridge in the Oltarno area.thought it was a good value and had all the pluses:very helpful front desk/reception, spacious room, quiet, cold a/c and very nice breakfast.n that area, we ate at Ristorante Ricchi on Lo Spirito della Piazza (across from San Spir
