ITALY Readers's Tips -
I wasn't aware that there was advanced ticketing for the Sistene Chapel. When I was in Rome, I stood in line at the Vatican for general admission, and explored the entire muesums freely. which included the Sistene Chapel.I wouldn't think you would have a problem getting in. you may have to stand in line awhile, but I believe that is true at any time of the year at the Vatican.
Marla; It seems that they need at least 10 people at 330USD per person to book this tour or 3995 for a private tour.
And they will wait to roughly the last minute to confirm, I assume because they must pay for the reservation to the Vatican in advance.
*On your own* the trick of the Sistine Chapel is to get there very early or very late in the day.
I have only done this in March both early (0745 and late (1300 but many other posters recommend this in peak season also.
By early mean getting in the Vatican Museum line at minimum 1hr before the 0845 opening.eptember is peak season so I would shoot for 0730.here will be a line but once the museum opens in moves very quickly.
Then you beeline straight to the Sistine Chapel (follow the signs I believe it's 'Chapella Sistina'.
[Then you can either exit rear left and go back to the museum or exit rear right thru the 'group tour' exit (just walk out it nobody cares: and this takes you right to St.eter's Basilica and bypasses the long line for the Basilica's Security Check.
Or later in the day before closing.or September I *believe* the ticket office closes at 1520 and the museum closes at 1645.
If you don't go early or late the Sistine Chapel is a mob scene, I mean people jammed into this room.nce in, you must cross the room to exit which is a feat in itself.
I made this mistake twice and never enjoyed the ceiling, I couldn't wait to get out of there.
Also the line to get into the Chapel in peak times can be very long.ut it does snake thru different rooms of the museum.
You might want to consider a confirmed tour with http://www.ntextrome.m they are excellent and the group is limited to 6 persons or less.
I have done both of these tours.
They have an 'Arte Vaticana' at 1:30 so by the time you get to the Chapel it shouldn't be too crowded (they hit highlights in the museum 1st [€70].
But you might like their 'Sistine Stroll' at 2pm which is more indepth [€50].
Both tours end in St.eter's Basilica and bypass the security check line.
Also clickon the 'Docents' like to read that tourguides bio in any tour you are interested in.
Well GoodLuck and as I said I'm assuming a bit concerning crowds during peakseason so you might want to doublecheck that.
Regards, Walter
Walter Thank you so much for all the details and advice. We actually are scheduled to pay 49 each for Select Italy, but I do get nervous with the "night before" confirmation You have given me some excellent options.Molto grazie.
Marla; I thought that you meant *just* a tour of the Sistine Chapel and I kindof jumped the gun o
