ITALY Readers's Tips -
Just ask for two tickets.ou can get both in Rome, saves you waiting in line in Florence.rite them both down, with the separate dates highlighted (dd/mm/yyyy format, and the departure times (24hour format.
It costs no more and is the logical way of doing it.he point being these days the mandatory seat reservation is built into the ticket price (they call this the global ticket now no longer a ticket for the distance travelled and a separate one for the reserved seat, and so you would need two tickets anyway, one for RomeFlorence, another for FlorenceVenice, since you will not occupy your seat all the way to Venice on day 1.
Hi T,
To expand on 's advice:
ES* trains are reservation only and are pointtopoint tickets.
Tickets for IC and R trains are good on any train. You can break your trip for about 6 hr and get on the next train to your final destination.
Seat reservations are good only on the train for which they were bought. The flight aboard Delta going to Italy, was fine. The plane was half full.As usual, I couldn't sleep. We landed first in Milan and took Alitalia to Venice. For the first time in my life I sat in the first class section. The seats really are more comfortable.e arrived in Mestre, which is where the Venice airport is located. We bought tickets to go to Venice on the water bus that crosses the lagoon and lost no time going to the dock.Unfortunately, no one told us the waterbus only travels once an hour and it wasn’t due for the better part of an hour.It was very cold and where was no shelter other than the roof over the dock.here were seats, however, so we sat in the cold until the waterbus came to pick us up.The trip across the lagoon was eyeopening. As we approached the city of Venice, I was stunned that it was so flat, so near the water, it was just there.Darkness was descending, so there was a muted appearance to the skyline of Venice.
Upon arrival at the Vaporetta Station near our hotel, I wondered if we had made a terrible mistake.Tromping down the street, over the bridges and finding our hotel, I thought we had. After entering the hotel, checking in and getting into the minuscule elevator (lift, I was convinced we had. When I first saw our room, I just wanted to turn around and go back to America. But I was tired, so I kept my mouth shut (which may have been a first for me.We learned at the desk that the hotel’s restaurant was closed and so we asked for directions to other restaurants or cafes. It was very cold, 31°, windy and somewhat rainy, not to mention very dark, when we ventured out to find dinner.he concierge had directed us back off the main street, down what I perceived to be an alley, where we came upon Da Roberto, which came to be “our” restaurant during out stay in Venice.Charming No.Great food No.It was handy, and the pizza was fine. The prices were low and the service was marvelous.Well, it had to offer something, didn’t it After dinner we decided to walk a little and trekked along the street u
