Good luck.
I have previous brought a bottle or two of wine home in my suitcase from foreign countries, but this time I’d like to bring home a larger amount, and I’m wondering about the logistics.I promised my boyfriend, who is not going with, that I’d bring home a few bottles (2 – 3 for us, plus I am now a member of a monthly women’s wine club, so I’m looking to get at least 6 bottles of *different* wines for us to sample at our meeting in November. They will all chip in to cover the costs, as they always do, but this is not for resale in any way. Here are my questions:
1 What is the best way to gather this We’ll spending 5 days in Sorrento and touring the neighboring areas, and 5 days in Rome touring the surrounding area.e are likely to take a day trip to Tuscany/Umbria our last full day.I’m not too familiar with the different wine regions and what I might find in these areas.Should I be gathering bottles along the way Or will I be able to get 8 9 different types of wine in one location and be done with it It’s not likely we will have time to do a full wine tour at a winery, but we can stop by ones that are on our way.
2 How do I get this home Save extra room in my suitcase for 9 bottles of wine Ship each bottle as I pick it up Ship all at once How do I ship and how expensive might that be
3 How will I have to declare this Will bringing home such a larger quantity require me to fill out anything differently than I did when I only had 2 bottles
4 Anything else I haven’t considered
Thanks for the help.

Honestly, Tracy I think you are going to have to ship it home.US Customs regulations will prevent you from bringing 9 bottles of wine in your suitcase. There are limits imposed.Since the ban on liquids, a lot of wineries have realized that they will need to offer an alternative, and they have the stuff on hand for shipping. It will be expensive, but it shouldn't be prohibitive.
I'm in UK, so can't comment on customs regulations.
If you do want to bring wine back, I'd recommend buying it later in the trip, rather than earlier, as you'll need to keep it somewhere coolish whilst you're there.
One bit of prep you could do, is to collect 1,2,3 or 6 bottle styrofoam packing cases for wine.hey are perfect for both insulation and damage prevention.'m told they're more widely available in US than in UK.
Rome will have plenty of wine shops and Tuscany has plenty of good wineries/shops.ry going to an enoteca wine bar and trying a few glasses.f anything tastes great to you, then think about getting a bottle to take home.n general Rome shops should have a wide selection, but Tuscan shops will be more locally focused.
Quite a few of the wine shops will arrange shipping if needed, but due to the costs invlolved, it's more feasible with more expensive wines.
