We will be arriving in Rome and then going to Tuscany, specifically, Radda in Chianti.Is it best to take a train from Rome and then rent a car If so, where should we take a train to Florence Siena Or is it best to pick up a car in Rome We will return to Rome for 3 nights after our Tuscany visit. Driving out of Rome would be pretty hairy at best. took the express train out of Rome which gets you into florence in 90 min.much faster than going to Siena by train.here is a Budget rentacar very close to the train station.riving out of Florence isn't that bad and it takes less than an hours drive on the autostrada to hit the Chianti Road (The chiantigiana Its great having a car in this region as there is much to see from the hilltowns to Siena and just the country side in general. very easy rural drive on great roads in the most picturesqe place on the planet.he beauty just doen't stop It just keeps rolling along from Radda to Greve on to Castelina in Chianti and if you travel a little further south you will hit Pienza,Montelcino, Montepulciano and other remarkable places along the journey.ood luck and happy motoring.ciao ciao

Thank you.In the interim, we have added a flight to Florence from Rome to our ticket for little to no additional cost.I have also rented a car but don't want to be the driver as automatics seem to be almost impossible to rent.I would love your thoughts on what to do vineyards etc.My 50th birthday will be during this trip and for some strange reason I want to go to Montelcino that day.e are thinking of Siena, Lucca, Florence, Montelcino, perhaps a lazy driving day to vineyards.I don't want to overplan these days in Tuscany as Rome in 2 1/2 days will be full.Thank you.
