I would save Taormina and Siracusa for another trip.Siracusa, especially staying in Ortigia, are definitely worthwhile lovely place with wonderful architecture, gorgeous Duomo and its piazza, excellent food, and waterfront no more than a 10 minute walk from anywhere on the peninsula.It's about a mile in diameter.
