I'm sure it was extremely disappointing, but the problem seems to be on this side of the Atlantic. don't think the airport shops in Italy can be held responsible for being uptodate on the rules and practices of airports outside their own country.

I agree with Suzy how is this a ripoff at Venice Airport This is all related to FDA food requirements/restrictions here in the US.It has nothing to do with duty or taxes or with Venice.I just got back and it is wonderful.Marco Polo Airport is full of boutiques and wonderful fresh food.

You can bring olive oil from Italy to the U. Perhaps now you must pack it in your checked luggage, because of the "liquid" restrictions on carryon luggage or purchases, which seems to be treated differently, depending on the personnel, the current regulations, and the airport.
