I stayed at the collisuem area at a 4 star hotel.I got this information from Cheap Hotel Guide as a great place to stay.. If you didn't see the graffiti on every wall and building from the airport forward then you had on some dark shades.I have pictures of all the filth that was surrounding the collisuem area that would make you sick to see.I was so looking forward to this trip, I might go to a different city in Italy, but never Rome again.I am not the only person that has complained about the filth, just do a search on reviews about Rome and you will see that I am not the only person that was disappointed. http://travel.hoo.m/previews191501769prodtravelguideactionreadratingsandreviewsisortorder4 go to this website to see more people like me who thought Rome was dirty and people were rude.

I was never a Rome person.There are a few areas I like, and some of the sights are very impressive, but as a city I just don't care for it.I like almost every other Italian city I've been to better than Rome. Everyone responds in a personal way to the places they visit.What excites one person doesn't do much for another.Although Rome is not a favorite, I never found the people particularly rude or dirty.
