ITALY Readers's Tips - My advice would be to take the train that best suits your schedule and to feel at ease about arriving in the evening in Rome.Just pay attention to your surroundings, use the same common sense precautions that you would in any large city and don't leave your bags unattended.Termini buzzes with activity (trains, buses, underground, taxis until quite late and no one is going to stick a gun in your face and rob you.If you are still staying near the Colosseum, it is a short bus or taxi ride from Termini.

In reply to your other post I drew your attention to the night train (Marco Polo with sleepers and couchettes, that gets into Rome (Tiburtina in the morning and lets you stay in Venice til midnight. But if you take an earlier one ten PM is not late in Italy and will be no different than at any other times be pickpocketproof (like you should be at any other time and in any other place and move purposefully, you will be a normal part of a normal travel scene.
