ITALY Readers's Tips - Robin, our daughter and family live in Naples, Italy and we go over twice a year.Last year we went down to the Amalfi coast in December. It was spotty rain, but temperate and the whole town of Sorrento was decorated for Christmas charming. We were able to stay at one of the BEST hotels for a limited fare, 180 Euros per night overlooking the Bay of Naples and within walking distance to everything in Sorrento Imperial Hotel Tramontano just lovely.Able to have an exquisite lunch at the wonderful Grande Albergo Excelsior Vittoria located just off the central piazza a little stuffy but wonderful food for lunch and a grand outdoor garden. We just walked around early evvening to find places for dinner in Sorrento. One such place was Trattoria "da Gigino".We took the bus from Sorrento, 3 Euros each, down to Amalfi and back for the day.The bus also stops at Positano and various other spots on the trip people just get on and off.We had been to the Amalfi coast in the summer 4 years ago and knew what we wanted to see again.Positano is one of our favorites.Anyway, you shouldn't have any problem at this time of year.ENJOY

jedaf65, thanks for the great intel.I can't wait to be there Our family (mother, father and 13 year old son is planning a trip in early June, 2007 to Italy.e have never been so we have been trying to do a lot of reading about the best places to see. We want to see Rome and Venice, but prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle, possibly in the Tuscany region.deally, we would have a "home base" and then travel from that location to see as much of Italy as we could in our two week stay. I know this is a rather broad question but thought I would ask for suggestions for this plan. Thanks, Bonnie

You can definitely get away from the "hustle and bustle" in the Tuscan countryside, but you'll be smack in the middle of it in Rome and Venice. We stayed at Fattoria Tregole just outside of Castellina in Chianti this past summer and loved it They even have 2 apartments if you want to do some cooking on your own and have more private space. A good place to stay in Venice (that is close to everything but not in the crowds is Ca'Angeli near the Rialto Bridge. It is a charming Bandamp;B and very reasonably priced. For Rome, we liked Albergo Cesari.
