ITALY Readers's Tips - Your schedule is well thought out but on the tight side.f you skip the Cinque Terre, and don't try to cram in another overnight stop, everything works out just fine in a bareminimum sort of a way.hat's okay, you'll be back. Day 7: By lunchtime you are settled into your hotel, so it counts as a half day for Florence.ays 8 9 10 you'll be based in Florence, and that is not too much for that wonderful city.ou can take a daytrip to Siena, by regular scheduled line bus, or tour bus (with a guide who meets you in Siena and shows you around that's a great way of making the most of it if you want you can take the tour that also goes to San Gimignano after Siena, making it a bit of a long day, but very worthwhile. Those days in and around Florence will go by like that.f you take two days to gallivant in the countryside, then you're skimping on the treasures of Florence itself, so 3and189; days is really a bare minimum. Then you should really go to Rome. The Cinque Terre is not a place where you drop by in a hurry and run off again.here is no one whammyand32; sightseeing target it is the atmosphere, the landscape, the slow way of life (also imposed by the gazillion visitors. that is the charm.hree days as a minimum I think, so that you can get to know either side of whichever of the five little towns you picked, and take a hike and a train trip and a boat ride. It takes too long to get there from Florence, and even longer to get from there to Rome.ave that for another trip, that's my suggestion. About trains there is no need to book far ahead.nce you get to Venice, you can just buy the tickets for the Florence trip, and so on it's not like buying plane tickets.

Thanks, Michael.hen I checked Trenetalia., it showed that Florence to La Spezia was a 2hour train ride, and I read that La Spezia to Cinque Terre is half an hour.o one of my plans was to go from Florence to CT, spend the night in CT, and go to Rome from La Spezia the next day (4 hour train.y Rick Steves' guide recommended 2 nights for CT so I thought 1day/1night might just make the cut.ince I don't know when I'll be back in Italy (as I have lots of other countries on my list, I'm hoping to fit CT into this trip. However, I did read the train schedules are unpredictable and workers often go on strike, so I will also look into your Siena suggestion as there's a speedy 75minute bus from Florence.heap Hotel Guide's destination said that Siena is pretty big and spreadout, therefore tiring.f we don't do the tour and just stayed the night around the piazza, is Siena still worthwhile I've never been to the Cinque Terra so I can't comment on that but if you decide that you can't do it justice and are looking for a place to explore on the way from Florence to Rome, please consider Orvieto. can't remember now what prompted us to explore it on our first trip to Italy but it was even more than we could have expected.he setting is like nothing I had experie
