ITALY Readers's Tips - Dont know if your message 9/21 referred to a future summer 07 or it already happened.nyway, with a family, I think it's better to headquarter in one place and go to others.lthough places look close on the map, it may take longer because of curves etc.ut beautiful countryside and small towns to see between destinations.lso, you and your family may enjoy a few train trips to destinations.herever you're headquartered, there's bound to be a train station closeby and you can find out prices/times/ etc.here. usually do a combo of train and driving.

Just curious what the mood is in Naples. have heard good and bad things about the mood.ny info (hotels, restaurant, shoppping, etc would be great.e will be traveling the last week of October. 'Lonely Planet' has a 'Gay and Lesbian' messageboard perhaps someone over there could help or point you in the right direction (website, blog, messageboard, etc. http://thorntree.nelyplanet.m/categories.mcatid35 I've always stayed by the train station (Piazza Garibaldi so any hotel or restaurants I know of would be in that area which is a seedy location to stay in and I wouldn't recommended it. As far a "the mood" goes, I really can't say as a straight man. But my guess/opinion would be; Naples is a tough city with alot of unemployment, crime and it seems to me at least a very macho attitude. I could be way off base here but I don't think it would be the ideal city to be too 'open' in public in, like when walking the streets or on mass transit. But at the hotel, restaurants or at the tourist sites I doubt you'd have any problems. General advice; Leave your jewelry at home, watch your camera and daybags for 'snatch and run' thieves (on foot or on the back of motorcycles and protect your wallet from pickpockets. We are also visiting Naples around that same time.Although we will be arriving by cruise ship. I have been under the impression that there is not a lot of "gayity " in Italy.It can be tolerated but after all it is a catholic society. We plan on traveling throughly and quietly .with a lot of respect all around .and figure we will be fine.
