ITALY Readers's Tips -
Generally speaking, I believe you simply have to make reservations at the train station once you are over there.Depending on when you go, you will only need reservations when taking a Eurostar train. If you are traveling during tourist season, you will probably want to try and get reservations for all legs of your trip.
None of the options on the pulldown selector under and34;faresand34; is for a Eurail Pass holder those are all other passes and exemptions.
So as Sara says, make a list of your desired trip legs, print it out, with dates and times and train numbers and departures and arrivals, and take that list to a window at a major station on arrival.how your Eurail Pass immediately so that the agent doesn't begin booking you tickets.
Allow for quite some time for waiting in line, and for the transaction, it can be tedious, but you should be able to get the seats for trip legs beyond Italy.
That is, unless you choose trains where reservation is not mandatory this can preserve you some measure of freedom, so don't go overboard, locking yourselves into a rigid schedule for the entire vacation just because of the darned seats.
To save time on arrival, you might want to pick a train without the mandatory reservation requirement for your first journey so what if it takes a few minutes longer. Then do it when you have settled in.
Do your homework with the following sites (don't know how far beyond Italy your Eurail Pass will take you, so pick the ones that suit:

My fiance and I will be spending our honeymoon in Italy the first two weeks of November. We have everything planned but are struggling with the very end of our trip.We fly out of Rome at 7:30 in the morning on Nov.3 (so we should be at the airport around 5 a. We will betravelling from Venice to Rome on Nov.2 and need a hotel for the night in Rome.
Should we find a hotel near the airport Or would it not be a problem to stay elsewhere in Rome We're spending 5 days in Rome at the begining of the trip. so I'm really just looking for advice on what would be easiest that last night to facilitate getting to the airport on time.Of course we'll probably search out one last romantic dinner
Thanks
