ITALY Readers's Tips - Personally, I love Siena.It's honestly like a step back in time when I visit there.At first, I was dubious, because all I had heard about was the cathedral (which is, in fact, amazing. but the whole town is just beautiful.I'm so glad I went, and I recommend it to you without any qualms.I thought the people there were very friendly, too.

For me there is no comparison.. is a charming oddity, a smallish hilltop town where locals had the hairbrained idea of building higherthantheneighbors towers onto their roofs.hen there is the usual assortment of churches and picturesque nooks and crannies.hat about sums it up. Siena was a rival to Florence, has the riches and history to prove it if you dig into the culture a bit and read up on the place, there is some substance there, and much to see from the various eras when Siena was a powerhouse.As a wag from Siena said when prodded about the currently dominant position of Florence and34;Siena is just regrouping.34;. While I enjoyed both Siena and San Gimignano, my vote would have to go to Siena.San G.s charming and visually appealing, but after a couple of hours of walking around and eating the world's best gelato you are looking to go elsewhere.Also, I found it to be overrun with tourists, moreso than other Tuscan hilltowns that I visited.San G.s best appreciated after the daytrippers have gone home and it is quieter. Siena is bigger with more to see and do, in my opinion.It would certainly take up a whole day. The other option is to go to both Siena andamp; San G.s they are quite close to each other.It would be a full day, but you will have seen both.Whatever you decide I hope you have a great trip.
