ITALY Readers's Tips - Great plan Siena as the hub for your Toscana countryside excursions is a good one.ure you can walk home, it's not the Wild West. If you want to avoid one more packingunpacking episode, go from Siena to one of the 5 Cinque Terre villages, settle in for four days, then visit Lucca on a daytrip from there it can be as little as 1 and189; hours by train from, say, Manarola.ack the same evening. And on the way from Siena to the C., get off in Pisa and spend a couple of hours there, walking to the leaning tower etc.click while your bags are safely stashed with the gents at the deposito bagagli window in the Pisa Centrale station.hen pick up a later train to carry on. Trains for Italy are at this site (click.

Thanks for the response but I think my post may have been confusing. My husband and I are planning on staying 4 nights in Florence, 4 nights in Sienna and then we have 2 nights to spend someplace else either Lucca (which we have visited for an afternoon and just loved it or possibly the C. as we have never been there, but didn't know if two nights would be enough in the CT.We have been to Pisa, so we don't need to do that again this trip. Sue Ah, now the fog is lifting. The Cinque Terre, no matter which of the five villages you pick, is a region for relaxed enjoyment, rather than one to rush in and back out.ou should really plan on spending two full days there, which means 3 nights.n Day One, the arrival day, settle in and develop a plan for tomorrow.he next day, hike in one direction, from town to town, and train it back.r go for a boat ride.r do both, before and after lunch. On day 3, more of the same, in a different direction.ood hiking some of it quite strenuous up and down, but there is always the train to take you back, and the hike makes for a healthy appetite. So, to enjoy that part and relax before your flight home, I would say add a day and take one away from Siena. Siena itself, the main sights, can be seen in one day.f you have three, then you can also see a good bit of the countryside and really make the most of it. Lucca can be a stop on your way to the Cinque Terre, it takes about 2 and189; hours to Lucca (via Empoli and Pisa.f you can get up in time to catch the 07:34 in Siena, you get to Lucca by 10:15. Leave Lucca at, say, 17:31 and you get to, say, Manarola by 19:16.r take the 17:59 and arrive at 19:49, just in time for dinner. Hope this helps.

THANKS How does this sound fly in/train to Florence, stay 4 nights.Pick up car (or train out and then pick up car and stay 3 nights in Siena.eturn car and train to Cinque Terre for 3 nights and then fly home.I can figure out more of the details (what we will do when once I get the outline of the trip in place. I have heard the hiking in CT can be quite difficult is there a hard trail and an easier one or is it more difficult between two of the villages
