ITALY Readers's Tips -
Although many things in Rome do close on Sundays (especially early in the day, there are still many things to do.ere are a couple options.
The Vatican is closed on every Sunday except the last of each month and entrance is free.owever, lines are EXTREMELY LONG these days.
The Villa Borghese is a nice park and a popular place for people to go on Sundays.nside the park you will also find the Galleria Borghese which is also open on Sundays (you will have to make reservations in advance.
Piazzas will not close (unless they are filming a movie or something and many churches will also be open.he Colosseum is also open on Sundays as well as the always open Circus Maximus.o, you will have many things to do.ope your trip goes well.
Have been to the Murano glass factory.Definitely want to go to Burano. So, I have some questions (naturally. We will be in Venice from 10/26 11/2/06.Staying in the area between Rialto andamp; San Marco. We are seniors, but active; walk couple miles a day; walk a lot on our travels.
1.Transportation to the islands I assume we take a water bus.Anyone know which ones or will that be easy to determine once we get to Venice Also, should we be concerned about getting a spot on a return water bus if we stay too long andamp; leave on the last boat
I assume there is more than 1 water bus stop at each island. On each island, which stop should be our arrival andamp; departure spot
2.Murano Any suggestions on what we should see besides the glass factory Can we do the island on foot or is it generally considered that land transport is needed bus
3.Burano Again, any suggestions on what we should see How do we get to the lace factories andamp; sites By foot or bus
4.What other islands Any suggestions on what not to miss on other islands
5.Anyone rec.roup tour of island(s or is it possible to see as much if do on own
Thanks, Julie
To reach Burano you need the Linea Nord water bus which sails from Fondamenta Nove.Boats run until late in the evening see www.tv. for timetables. The boats are quite large and I have never seen them completely full.
Burano only has one water bus landing stage. The Linea Nord Boat stops first at Murano (one stop then Mazzorbo and then Burano.eware there is virtually no lace made on the island anymore.Lots of shops selling lace imported from the far East.A very little, very expensive Burano hand made lace, is occasionally available at the Lace Museum. The good things about Burano are the pretty painted small houses and a few excellent fish restaurants (plus a good deal of tourist fodder.
You can take a 41/42 water bus out to Murano which stops at about 6 landing stages around Murano island.Murano is pedestrianised, as are the other islands, so you have to walk around it or take the 41/42.I usually get off at the Museo landing stage to visit the Glass museum and the church of S.aria e Donato and then walk along the canal side to visit S Pietro martire and have lunch at Busa e Torre in the litl
