ITALY Readers's Tips -
Rather than shopping in the supermarket, head down to the market which is excellent.round that area are very good pasticcerie where you can pick up some wonderful pastries.ia Galata, san vincenzo and colombo are good (if not great for foodie stuff.enoa seems to be a city where the small (untouristy trattorie can give the most rewarding experiences.f you can get an apartment, I think you'll enjoy Genoa more as it's more a functional city than a tourist extravaganaza (which is absolutely fine in my mind.
Genoa, like all big cities, will be difficult in a car.here are good places to see enroute from Marseille and others reachable by car or train from Genoa.
I'm told the passagiata in Recco is excellent, which is seemingly typical of otherwise unprepossesing towns in Italy.
The old town is not IMO particularly interesting (at least compared to other such areas in Italy, and if you're there at night, keep your wits about you (but don't overly worry about it.n the way down there from the centre there's a couple of decent wines bars (one I recall had a barrel outside doing good simple food.here's also a good pasticerria and gelateria in the small square (again, sorry can't recall the name on the way.
The acquarium is worth a visit if these things interest you (the penguin area is excellent and always gathers a good crowd.
Hope you have fun
regards
