ITALY Readers's Tips - As tempting as it might seem from home, day trips/sidetrips don't really fit into that tight of an itinerary (better to forgo the idea of trekking into the countryside while visiting Florence and with only three nights and less than 3 days in Rome, a trip down the Amalfi Coast is just not practical.Be content with seeing three magnificent cities and remember to bring comfortable shoes and to get your legs into shape before leaving. As for your possible quick trip into Paris: It depends on what time you actually get out of customs and whether or not you have to recheck luggage before heading to Rome.If you were out of customs and luggage free by 730 or so then you could take a quick trip into central Paris, see the Eiffel Tower and walk down a boulevard or two before scurrying back to the airport. But, when weighing the effort involved and the risk of a missed connection, it is not very advisable, especially for first time visitors.I will be honest though and say that if I actually had 7 hours or so (730230 to kill I would do it or certainly do somethingand32; other than sit in the terminal although there are still risks (later flights have been know to be cancelled and passangers hearded onto an earlier flight to their desination, etc.

Hi J, I agree that with such a short visit, R,F and V will take up all of your time. As for Paris: You should be out of the airport before 08:30. Take the RER B from the train station in CDG 2 to St.ichel about 45 min.You are right near Notre Dame. See www.tp. for directions to/from Aeroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV. See ND and walk East to the Ile St Louis.Wander around.Have some breakfast. Go back toward ND and cross over to the Left Bank. Walk West along the Seine.Just opposite ND is a Batobus stop. You might like to take a boat ride on the Seine.See www.tobus.m. The Batobus will stop at the D'Orsay (after you see the Eiffel tower, you can see the museum or walk across the Pont Royal to the Louvre. Head East along the Seine and take the RER B3 back to CDG from either the St.ichel or Chatelet stop. For a 4:30 flight, you will want to back at the airport by 2:30. Check the Batobus schedule, as you might not have time to do both a boat ride and the Ile St Louis. Enjoy your day. jacoboliver: I could have written your very post My husband and I are looking at going to Rome, Florence, and Venice in October with another couple.Who did you book through Does anyone have suggestions on tours in any of these areas None of us have ever been to Europe at all.I am really looking forward to the trip and do not want to spend our time spinning wheels.I think my main question is answered.Cruise or no cruise And I think not.We are budget travelers though and want to get the most bang for our buck so any suggestions would be welcome. We will spend approx.0 days to 2 weeks over there. All help appreciated
