ITALY Readers's Tips -
Thanks so much for posting your trip report.I felt like I was there I'm glad you had such lovely accommodations in Venice and Sorrento.Your arrival in Venice, the accommodations, and the gracious host sounds like a perfect introduction to Venice and Italy.
I'm happy your children enjoyed it so much, too.Congratulations on structuring a trip so that all members had wonderful experiences in Italy.
It could be that I use a Mac browser that's not very
compatible with the Trenitalia site, or it could be that I'm
not as skilled at surfing the Nets as I once thought.n any
case, I am unable to figure out if there's an overnight train
with sleeper cars traveling from Venice to Rome on the
night of January 11/12and if so, how much it costs.
I've always wanted to try a night in a train, and it seems like
a reasonable way to save a little by combining the cost of a
train ticket and a hotel.
Can you help
The Marco Polo leaves Venezia Santa Lucia (the station down by the canal at 00:04 (that would be on the 12th now and gets to Roma Tiburtina at 06:56.
Click on Details in the first column (Info and you see that it has sleepers and couchettes and that reservation is mandatory and will be included in the ticket, even if you decided to sit up all night (when the letter R is boxed in, that means mandatory reservation.
It is not currently on sale.his could have to do with some anticipated changes on Dec. when Italy, together with much of the rest of Europe since all countries are computerlinked, adjusts yearly train timetables and schedules etc.
Keep looking it up and one day, voilą, or in Italian Ecco it will bring up the shopping basket and let you proceed.
Hope this helps.
In November, my boyfriend and I will be visiting Venice.I've been before, but it is his first time and I'd like it to be a great experience for him.I've always approached Venice by train, and then taken the vaporetto to my hotel.I like this approach because there's the building anticipation of the train over the causeway, and then the dramatic jolt when you step out of the dark and low station into fullcolor Venice, followed by the spectacular trip down the Grand Canal on the vaporetto. However, since we are arriving directly into Marco Polo airport, our two options are 1 bus to Piazzale Roma and then the vaporetto or 2 the Alilaguna airport boat (water taxi is too expensive to St.ark's Square (we are staying at Locanda Orseolo.I've heard that the best way to approach Venice is by water, so maybe Alilaguna, in addition to being the easier option, would still pack a dramatic punch I know this is probably a silly concern, but I would really appreciate hearing opinions, particularly if you've approached Venice in multiple ways.Thank you
