Late last July Rome's Architectural Superintendent said that in the Spring '07 they were going to try and reopen once the roof was safe from leaking water. The repairs would still be ongoing (with scaffolding, etc during this reopening and would probably last another year. August 2007 trip to CT and Tuscany family of 4 flying into Pisa then heading to Cinqe Terre for 5 nites followed by 6 nites in Siena as a base for Tuscany.Where can I rent a car close to Cinque Terre I think will be staying in Vernazza.Does is make sense to maybe take the train to Lucca, spend a day there and rent a car there (My daughter was recently in Pisa and doesn't want to spend much time there. Another option is to rent a car in La Spezia, the closest city to Cinque Terre that offers car rentals, and then drive to Lucca. Be advised that the car rental agencies in La Spezia are not within a short walk of the train station.However, the municipal bus service in La Spezia runs between the train station and the street where the car rental agencies are located.The busstop was within a block of where we dropped off the car. We've used AutoEurope and dropped off cars in La Spezia on two occasions.AutoEurope is a consolidator that uses both Avis and Europcar agencies.
