ITALY Readers's Tips -
After walking the street that encircles the harbor, there's not much else to see.You don't need a lot of time there. The daytrip should be enough. It is worthwhile for a brief visit.
I was in Portofino, last September, and was very disappointed.part from the cove, with stores and restaurants around it, there really isn't anything else to see. don't know what I expected, but I thought almost any other town along the coast was nicer.f you just want to stop for a drink, and look at the boats coming in, you probably would enjoy that.
We had a very pleasant 3 or 4 hours in Portofino as a side trip.
Parked our car in Santa Margherita Ligure and walked along the
water to Portofino. The walk takes about an hour and gave us a
nice overview of the homes and scenery leading to Portofino.
Once in Portofino you might want to climb the hill to the church
and cemetery. We spent a pleasant time on the piazza drinking a
beer (pretty expensive walking around a bit and then taking the
ferry back to SML.I would not drive to Portofino as the traffic can
back up and the cost of parking is high plus no need for a car in
Portofino.
We are planning to go to Sicily for 6 days in October and would like input as to which places you'd cover in that amount of time as well as train vs.enting a car.Any favorite hotels, restaurants
