ITALY Readers's Tips - Yep, always have two cards.y debit card has a Visa logo, worked fine in UK, Scotland, Wales, Spain, and Italy last summer.ust be sure you have a 4 digit pin and notify your cc company the 800 on the back of the card not just your bank, do both, and tell them where and when you are traveling.f your wife has the same card tied to the same CHECKING account with here name on it, she can also use it if yours gets hung up or eaten by a machine.f you are too worried about atm's, you can go to a bank and withdraw money using your atm card, but it is tedious and time comsuming. Did that in Ireland a couple of years ago, but it took forever.o ATM's in Younghl that I could find, so I had to use a bank. John B.

I recently returned from Italy and tried an ATM machine, asking for 300.he machine turned me down. realized it was for 300 euros which is over my local bank allowance and then asked for 250 and got it. Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Ala in Venice and what are your thoughts on it

Have stayued at the HOTEL ALA three times since the mid 70's and have been very satisified with the accomodations, staff and etc.Has good location near the S.iglio vaporetto stop and facing a fairly large square with a decent ristorante Giglio next door and about a half block from the Da Raffaele and three blocks from the Pza S.arco, has a taxi stop at its rear for arrival and departure by water taxi..
