I just took my family there last month and planned the whole trip myself. got Brownie points as we passed the long lines to get into museums ( I made reservations in advance and also took private tours and our guide was able to bypass the lines.he was able to make a reservation for the Colosseum so we didn't wait. If you want to go to a Papal Audience in Rome, you can write for tickets, I enclosed an envelope with postage from Italy and they mailed me a voucher.lso in Pisa if you want to climb the tower you can make reservations in advance on the internet and not have to wait a couple of hours.ut as you are going in the fall maybe the lines won't be so bad.don't know what cities you are going to but it is easy to plan on your own.f you don't want a private tour I would still recommend taking a guided tour with a group as they are able to bypass lines also.e traveled between cities by train and even flew once, really cheap.f you want some of the websites I used let me know.
