ITALY Readers's Tips - To me, visiting the Aeolians was certainly worth the trip.Stromboli was one of the highlights because our goal was to hike to the top of the crater and it certainly didn't disappoint.Unless you're keen on doing this, it's a pretty quiet, sleepy island especially after the summer crowds have dispersed.The beaches are pebbley and soso; nonetheless it's a pleasant island for kicking back, taking lazy strolls thru the narrow lanes or doing short hikes up the slopes, going 'round the island on a local fishing boat, and eating granita at the piazza while gazing at the deep blue Med. If you want more action, then I'd suggest Lipari with it's busy harborfront, small interesting shops, restaurants and caffes.You could also daytrip to the islands of Vulcano, Panarea or Salina. We did Stromboli as a (day boat trip, though I suspect night trips are better.he place we ate at was fairly poor in a tourist tat kind of way, and I suspected this was the norm for the island. If you make it to Lipari, try the "Casbah" restaurant, which was both classy and relaxed.lso look inland for more local restaurants.on't eat in the harbour area unless you like microwaved pasta.he museum is worthwhile.
