ITALY Readers's Tips - Paying a deposit for a Bandamp;B seems to me to be perfectly reasonable.A Bandamp;B has far fewer rooms than a hotel so the loss of a reservation there has a much greater impact than to a hotel owner. As you may know, if you reserve an apartment in Italy, you usually have to pay anywhere from 2533% as the deposit. Check the Bandamp;B's refund policy.A way to protect yourself is to buy a trip insurance policy in case you have to cancel your plans.

Thanks , I've seen your sage advice on Italian itineraries on this board, so I'm going to throw this out.Others, please feel free to respond as well. My wife andamp; I are headed to Italy for the first time with our 7 month old daughter (who travels exceptionally well. The trip begins with Venice andamp; ends with Rome (the plane tix are already purchased. We've got Tuscan plans in between, but feel we're probably trying to pack in too much (especially with our daughter in tow. Our current itinerary (for November is this:

  • 4th Sat Flight to Venice
  • 5th Sun through 6th Mon Venice
  • 7th Tues Train to Florence (Overnight in Florence
  • 8th Wed Train to Lucca (Overnight in Lucca
  • 9th Thurs Cinque Terre
  • 10th Fri Train to Siena (Overnight in Siena
  • 11th Sat Train to Rome
  • 12th Sun through 14th Tues Rome In Rome andamp; Venice we're staying with friends, and we feel like that amount of time in each city is just enough to experience each well. The questions come with the inbetween time: 1.'m feeling that we should just cut out the Cinque Terre on this trip, especially given the advice that you cannot speed in speed out.Should we 2.f we cut out the Cinque Terre, that would leave us with an extra Tuscan night where should we spend it We've dedicated a day/night in each Lucca andamp; Siena because little relaxed villages with twisty streets and hidden piazas really appeal to my wife andamp; I. 3.hould we be concentrating time elsewhere besides Lucca or Siena I would appreciate any thoughts that anyone has. Thanks

I know I'm not , but I thought I'd give you my opinion too.; I would suggest that you cut out Cinque Terre and spend another night in Florence. There is a lot to enjoy in Florence, and I don't think 1 day/night would do it justice.Plus, Florence is an easy to connection to Siena and Lucca. Adding anywhere else to that modified plan, and you won't really get to enjoy the midcities. It will pass in a blur of packing, unpacking, and traveling.Part of the beauty of visiting Tuscany is really getting a feel for the slower pace of life. enjoying long meals, good wine, etc. So, there's my 2 cents.Have a wonderful trip.:
