ITALY Readers's Tips - Read up on Venice and make a short list of the indoor items you want to see.hat's where you have to plan, google the venue and find out the opening hours so that you don't get there after twenty busloads of daytrippers have already lined up. For the rest of the time, plan on walking and more walking, with a really good detailed map and a little elcheapo compass for when you get turned around.etting a little lost in Venice is great fun, and better than staying on the safely marked path that everybody else takes, eyes glued to the feet of the person in front of you so you don't step on them when the whole enchilada comes to a halt because yet another tourist wants to look at a Rolex watch in a shop window. Use the public vaporetti the boat buses on the major canal and plan your routes according to the only three bridges across the Gran' Canal, and plan on a halfday boat trip to Burano and Murano and maybe the third little island.he glassblowing is fascinating, but prices are better in Venice, and some tours turn into a hardsell. Get up at 6AM (no kidding and you feel like you have Venice to yourselves well worth a walk during sunup, get to San Marco when the sun comes up and the pretty street lights are still on you get the best souvenir photos Also stay up late, the city again changes character and feels more livedin and less like Disneyland when the daytripper buses have pulled out. Enjoy

This topic has appeared frequently on this message board and others. After my second visit to the Amalfi coast and past stays in Cinque Terre, I decided to write about it for the latest "Tip of the Month" on my website and to include some photos. Here is an excerpt: "Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast are very popular tourist destinations and are crowded from May to September, especially on the week ends. Both offer:

  • Spectacular coastal views backed by mountain ranges
  • Charming towns that date from medieval times with terraced vineyards and stone walks built and maintained over centuries
  • Excellent hiking
  • Excellent restaurants
  • Swimming and boating in the Mediterranean
  • Sunny, temperate climates with coastal breezes In spite of these similarities, they are very different vacation destinations.inque Terre is almost a "baby" version of the Amalfi Coast, less expensive, and lacking the cruise ships of Amalfi and Positano and the extensive shopping that is available in several Amalfi Coast towns, especially Amalfi and Positano." I hope Cheap Hotel Guide readers find this Tip useful.ven after spending a considerable length of time in both places, I would be hard pressed to name a favorite.I'm looking forward to returning to both places.I'd love to hear what other readers think. Nice writeup I would add a major distinction: Amalfi has the nearby major tourist attractions of ancient Pompei, Paestum, and so on. The C. do not have anything comparable for bigcity hubbub you take the train to Genoa, while the nearest
